Gladys and Pat's Story

Before choosing Emerald Crest, I was struggling. I have lupus, and doctors have advised me that stress will cause flare-ups. Working part-time, dealing with my own health issues and trying to take care of my mom meant I had a lot of stress in my life. That was especially true because my mom’s needs were increasing faster than I could keep up with them.

I realized that my mother needed memory care in a secure, safe setting and chose Emerald Crest because the small, homey environment is exactly what we needed. The programming and resident-to-caregiver ratio helps ensure a safe, comfortable environment.

My mom feels safe and comfortable. She is much calmer than she was before she moved here, relaxed and content. I’m feeling better, too. I am confident that she has a better quality of life.

Dementia robs one of so many things. It is comforting to know my mom is getting the best possible care in a warm and loving environment. Everyone at Emerald Crest shows how much they care about their residents.

I have recommended Emerald Crest to a number of people, and one person has recently moved in. I can’t say enough about what a great community we found. Staff is so competent, thorough and not only cares for the resident, but the family as well.

High on our list for a place for our Mom was connection to the church, closeness to her church home, Gethsemane Lutheran, and a private room with her own phone line! Mom was not the kind to share a room. Her opinions were strongly held and vocally shared. We loved that about her, but realized that another might not. Though the cooking was not to her liking ("they never met an onion") we and she realized that residents have many dietary needs. She ate dessert first. The staff, however, allowed us to buy Grape Nuts to offer when she showed up early for breakfast. We endured COVID without Mom, the former TB patient, getting it. When I had other care concerns, staff addressed those at once. It was a good place for my Mom. The Chaplain even showed up wearing a tee shirt with her photo and the phrase "Valedictorian" a fact Mom managed to mention to every new care giver.
