A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease does not mean the end of driving days. This talk will cover how family members can prepare and plan to address the ability of a loved one with memory loss to drive. What clues should one look for and when does one start having these driving discussion. The earlier you start this conversation, the better. Learn how to address driving concerns, signs to look for, what role your health care provider can offer, what a driving evaluation looks like, watch a short video on what the evaluation includes, how to prepare for the evaluation and what the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services requires of the patient.

Kathleen A Kiefer, OTR/L, CDRS, LDI is clinical specialist in driver rehabilitation at Regions Hospital in St Paul, MN. She graduated with Bachelor of Science degree from University of WI-Madison in 1985. She has worked in hospital based rehabilitation for the past 29 years. She has been at Regions Hospital for 20 years and prior to this worked as a staff occupational therapist at the University of MN Hospital. In 2002 she focused her efforts on outpatient programming and eventually developed a comprehensive driving program including behind the wheel evaluation and training.
